Becoming a tyre fitter

A tyre fitter repairs or replaces damaged or worn tyres. They often need to inspect tyres for customers to check for wear or for a puncture for example and may need to advise them on what sort of tyres they need. They can work on any kind of vehicle, from cars or light vehicles to large goods or public service vehicles. They may also go out and repair tyres on vehicles that have broken down.

Tyres come in ranges such as budget, mid range and top range and the price usually goes up the better quality brand you buy but buying top end is not always the most economical way or replacing your tyres.

As a tyre fitter you may be expected to work 6 or 7 days a week on a rota basis giving you a day or two off in the week. Tyre centres are usually open long days and weekends and may even offer a 24 hour call out service.
